I am a Hospice trained Palliative Carer, with over 4 years experience, both Hospice and private. I am based in Durban, but am prepared to work anywhere in South Africa.
If you have a terminally ill loved one at home, and need help, please Whatsapp or Whatsapp call me on +27 813042108.
History:
Firstly, I did the 3-month Hospice Carer Giver course and then volunteered every Sunday and most Wednesdays for almost 2 years (approximately 1000 volunteer hours).
Once the wards closed at the onset of Covid, I did private care, mainly as a living carer.
I also did a 7-month caring (24/7) for old man with Alzheimer’s. I performed all the duties of keeping the house in order, shopping, cooking and running errands as required.
I have most recently completed two Palliative care contracts, both in July 2025.
My services include
1) Palliative care information and advice.
2) Shift work, or live-in.
3) Observation and reporting to family and/or the Doctor.
4) Movement and massage (pressure sore prevention).
5) Shopping, cooking and feeding, if required.
6) Monitor pain and administration of medication.
7) Keeping accurate hourly/daily reports
8) Provide comfort and company.
9) Anything else which might be required of me.
I have also completed the Lifeline counselling course.

With reference to Phillip Carlisle.
I have been a nursing sister in the Palliative Care Unit of Highway Hospice, Africa’s first Hospice, since inception in 1982. I have always worked with Ward Volunteers, and they are a very important and integral part of providing care to people with a terminal disease and their families too.
Phillip joined our team in August 2018 and works two shifts a week. He is one of the most kind, caring and loving people I have ever met. He immediately identifies with what each patient’s individual needs and beliefs are, as well as what each family member requires in every unique situation. He never intrudes, and is so intuitive to each situation and circumstance he finds the patient in. He is willing to do anything for a patient or family member, but is always aware that he needs to step back at times.
He is very much a part of our team, and I believe very strongly that he is happiest helping people less fortunate than himself. Phillip is a loving soul, and his concern for his fellow man is quite humbling. No job is beneath him, washing, bathing, cleaning dressings, making cups of tea and coffee for family and visitors and talking sincerely and honestly to people to make everyone feel more comfortable in their new surroundings is what he is so, so very good at.
Phillip is a huge asset to us in so many ways, as well as to our fundraising department, and external awareness and education. He has already had a new sluice machine sponsored and given talks about Hospice and Palliative care to groups of students.
He hosted the biggest group of day-volunteers for Mandela Day, and talks with authority and passion about his Hospice work. He would be an all-round asset to any organisation, especially one with a social focus.
